Event has donated more than $1.6 million in its 22-year history
The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is returning to an in-person event on May 15 and continuing its mission to give back to the community. The nonprofit event has selected New Community Shelter and Greater Green Bay YMCA as its 2022 charity partners.
“The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon facilitates wellness, boosts tourism and fosters community spirit with our sponsors and volunteers. Coming together for race weekend also makes a difference for local nonprofits. We’re able to share the mission of our charity partners with our participants and ultimately give back to programs that improve our community,” said Brighid Riordan, board vice president of the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon.
In addition to event proceeds, charity partners benefit from the Run for a Reason program, which allows runners to raise funds for the charity partners to earn a free entry into the marathon, half marathon or relay. Participants raise $300 to receive a free entry for an individual event or $300 per team member for a relay event.
New Community Shelter helps the homeless and the hungry through its emergency shelter, transitional living program and community meal program. The organization believes in offering support services to access other community resources necessary for achieving self-sufficiency. Proceeds from the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon will be used for the community meal program, which provides dinner to anyone in need in the community 365 days a year.
Greater Green Bay YMCA is dedicated to strengthening the spirit, mind and body of the community. More than a fitness center, the organization focuses on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Donations from the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon will be used for community wellness initiatives, including Livestrong at the YMCA, Exercising with Parkinson’s, Blood Pressure Self Monitoring and more.
Over the past 22 years, the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon has generated more than $1.6 million in proceeds for local charities.
