Cellcom Green Bay Marathon to Kick Off Training Season

by

Annual Kick-Off Party Presented by Prevea Sports Medicine on Jan. 9

The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is five months away, but training for the event is just around the corner. The annual kick-off party presented by Prevea Sports Medicine will get training season underway on Thursday, January 9 at Badger State Brewing Company (990 Tony Canadeo Run, Green Bay). Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. with the program starting at 7:00 p.m.

The evening is a night of camaraderie and encouragement to get runners off on the right foot as they prepare for the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon events in May.

“When you start working toward the goal of a half marathon or marathon, it’s helpful to know that you’re not alone. The kick-off party offers motivation and is really the start line for our runners as they take the first steps of their training. We hope everyone leaves feeling even more confident in their abilities and the training that lies ahead,” said Alissa Cotter, co-race director for the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon.

Attendees will hear from keynote speaker Will Kocken. A Green Bay native, Kocken broke the record for the fastest marathon carrying a 100-pound pack at the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon in 2018. He will discuss his path to the record, how to make goals big or small possible, and the value of the journey. Kocken is an Active Guard Reserve Service Member in the Army National Guard and just returned from his third deployment. An active community member, he co-founded 4th HOOAH WI, an organization dedicated to helping veterans in the state.

The kick-off will feature an overview of the 2020 event. Start and finish lines are returning to the stadium district and the Cellcom Green Bay 5K will now take place on the same day as the distance events – Sunday, May 17. All of the events on Sunday will include a signature lap around Lambeau Field. Saturday’s events will include the one-day Prevea Health & Fitness Expo and bib pick-up at Lambeau Field and a kids’ event at Capital Credit Union Park, home of the Green Bay Booyah.

Attendees at the kick-off will also hear about the many training resources available from Prevea Sports Medicine.

Free hors d’oeuvres will be provided and refreshments from Badger State Brewing Company will be available for purchase. There is no cost to attend and no registration is required.
