The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon does not offer a 5K training program in Green Bay for adults, as we do with the marathon and half marathon training program sponsored by Prevea. We do have 5K training programs for youth in many local schools (see Love To Run link). Nevertheless, we do encourage people to use our 5K as their first foray into running. The 3.1-mile distance is abundantly achievable for even first time runners and walkers with only 4-5 weeks of preparation. Begin with running up and down your own street a few times the first week. Gradually increase to walking or running a mile within the first two weeks. In the remaining weeks, remain dedicated a regular regimen of going out 2-3 times each week, increasing the mileage to 2 miles and eventually 3 miles one week prior to your first 5K. After experiencing the thrill of crossing an official finish line for the first time, you’ll be a walker or runner for the rest of your life!
