Runners with smartphones will be able to instantly get their results at the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon by simply scanning a quick-response (QR) code printed on their bib. A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode that can be scanned using an app on a smartphone. The code will then direct the user to the encoded information, which can be text, a phone number, a coupon, or in the marathon’s case a URL.
Runners will be directed to their personal results page when they scan the QR code on their bib. Runners with smartphones have the advantage of not having to wait in line to get their final time and mile splits.Android, BlackBerry and iPhone devices require a QR code reader application to scan QR codes, and all have several QR code applications available for free in their application market.
The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is one of the first races in the country to implement this technology. it’s nice to be at the leading edge in the racing community.”
Be sure to download an app on your phone before race weekend. Click these links for apps on Android, BlackBerry, iPhone devices. If you need more information on how to download a QR code application visit the Cellcom booth at the Prevea Health & Fitness Expo. Runners without smartphones can still get their final time and splits at the results tent in the finish area.
