Registration open for the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon

by

Registration for the 2016 Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is now open. The 17th annual event will take place May 20-22, 2016 and runners can now register for the full marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 5K or WPS Kids’ Power Run.

“We are excited to be opening registration for participants earlier this year than in the past,” said Toni Jaeckels, race director for the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon. “Runners are already starting to plan out their race calendars for 2016 and are setting their sights on a spring event. Many look to commit to a spring race as they come off a successful fall training season to stay motivated before the holidays and colder weather set in.”

From now until January 13, registration for the marathon is $85, half marathon is $75, and the marathon relay is $250 per team. Adult 5K registration is $20 and youth registration is $15. WPS Kids’ Power Run registration is $10. The marathon capacity will be 2000 participants, the half marathon will be 6000 participants and the relay marathon will be 200 teams. Elite marathon registration and registration for the Prevea Luv 2 Run program will open at a later date.

Runners can also register for the Run for a Reason program, which allows runners to raise funds for the marathon’s charity partners in exchange for a free entry into the marathon or half marathon. Participants must raise $300 to receive their free entry. All funds raised go directly to Golden House, ASPIRO and a third charity partner that will be selected in October. Applications are being accepted for the open charity partner spot until September 30. Over the past 16 years, the non-profit event has generated over $1 million in proceeds for local charities. With about eight months until race weekend, the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is hoping early registration will inspire runners of all experience levels to take on new challenges.

“The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon has something for everyone, whether you’re doing your first organized run or you’re ready to graduate to a new, more challenging distance,” said Jaeckels. “It’s easy for athletes get stuck in the routine of doing the same distance year after year. With registration opening earlier than ever, we are hoping to give our runners the opportunity to set a new goal and have plenty of time to train accordingly.”
