MARATHON DISTRIBUTES OVER $90,000 TO LOCAL CHARITIES

This year’s Cellcom Green Bay Marathon generated at total of $90,067 in proceeds for its three charities – $30,067.49 of that coming from direct fundraising through the Run for a Reason program, $22,488.83 in general fundraising (amounts raised for all three charities) and $37,511.17 in operating proceeds from the event. This brings the total donated by the event to local charity partners to more than $410,000 over the past 11 years.

Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin, the Boy & Girls Club of Green Bay and Cerebral Palsy, Inc. each received $20,000 today at the Boys & Girls Club of Green Bay, a combination of the remaining Run for a Reason money and the contribution from the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon Charities Foundation. The charities had already received $30,067 in direct contributions from marathon fundraisers.

CHARITY PARTNER POSITION OPEN FOR 2011-2013 SEASONS

The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon partners with three local charities each year to assist in staffing this event. The charities serve on staggered three year terms. This allows for one new charity to be added each year as other charities’ terms expire. Applications for a 2011-2013 charity partner position is open now. Applications will be accepted through September 30, 2010. Cellcom and the marathon will announce which charity has been selected in early November.

Results & Finisher Certificates Available

Finisher results for the marathon, marathon relay and half marathon are now available on the event website. There are no recorded results for the Mini Marathon or WPS Kids’ Run. The online results will not be official until midnight on Monday, May 17th, after corrections have been submitted. CLICK HERE to go to the results page.

On behalf of the volunteers, sponsors, staff and the community, thank you for participating in this past weekend’s Cellcom Green Bay Marathon! Over 10,000 runners took part in the two day event. We hope to see all of you next year. Mark your calendars for the weekend of May 13-15, 2011. Registration opens October 1st.

REGISTRATION FOR MINI AND KIDS’ RUN STILL AVAILABLE EVENT WEEKEND

Online registration is currently closed, however anyone interested in participating in the 2.62 Mile Mini Marathon or the WPS Kids’ Power Run can still register event weekend at the Prevea Health & Fitness Expo. Weekend registration for both events is available at the expo Friday from 3 – 7 pm. Registration for the WPS Kids’ Run is available again on Saturday in the finish area (southeast corner of Lambeau Field lot across from the Hutson Center) from 8 – 11:30 am. Registration for the 2.62 Mile Mini Marathon is available on Saturday in the Lambeau Field Atrium from 7 – 8:30 am.

A year of planning and months of training are culminating in the eleventh annual Cellcom Green Bay Marathon this weekend! We hope all of you participating in this weekend’s events arrive well rested and have an outstanding race. For those of you volunteering or leading various areas of the event, you have our gratitude and that of the runners. Just about any question you might ask can be answered by perusing the pages of this website.

We will be handing out Cellcom Green Bay Marathon Weekend Event Guides at registration and packet pick up. These handy, pocket sized booklets also provide you with vital information. VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED

We are still seeking volunteers for a variety of activities and services for this year’s event, which takes place May 14-16. Opportunities include, but are not limited to, packet assembly, goodie bag stuffing, expo staff, greeters, start and finish line crews, food tent staff, course security, clean-up, information booth and more.

“The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is fortunate to have many repeat volunteers year after year. With the move to a two-day format this year, we will need additional support from the community to support our event.” said Jody Weyers, volunteer coordinator for the marathon. “One of the best things is families and friends have the opportunity to volunteer together and there is truly a volunteer opportunity for everyone.”

Courtesy of Cellcom and Nsight Telservices, the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is proud to offer friends and family the ability to receive live race day updates on the progress of their runners via cell phone or email address. This service is only available for the May 16th Cellcom Green Bay Marathon, Half Marathon or Marathon Relay (i.e. the chip timed events). There is no charge – All you need is a cell phone number or email address. When participants cross over timing mats at the mile 5, mile 10, mile 13.1 (halfway), mile 15, mile 20, the One-Mile-to-Go mark (12.1 for the half marathoners and 25.2 for the marathoners), and the finish line, this information will be sent directly to your email address or cell phone number. PARTICIPANTS MAY NO LONGER CHANGE EVENTS

Effective immediately, registered Cellcom Green Bay Marathon participants may no longer switch events. With the distance events (marathon, marathon relay, and half marathon) at full capacity, we will no longer be able to accommodate changing of events. Participants may only participate in the events that they are currently registered for. Participants are discouraged from running a different event from the one for which they are registered. Those who choose to do so on race day will be able to run through Lambeau Field, cross the finish line, collect a finisher medal, collect a finisher t-shirt, and enjoy the post race celebration, but they will not appear in the posted results for the event. Again, participants may no longer change events regardless of personal circumstances such as injury, medical conditions, scheduling conflicts or general lack of preparation.
