Registration for the 2013 Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is now open. Runners can register for the full marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 5K or WPS Kids’ Power Run.
All events will once again include a lap around Lambeau Field in 2013. Capacities have been set for the distance events to reflect the returned constraint of the Lambeau Field tunnel, which is used as the simultaneous entry and exit point for the each of the courses. In order to ensure safety and enjoyment for all participants in this portion of the course, the marathon capacity will be 2500 participants, the half marathon will be 5500 participants and the relay marathon will be 200 teams.
“We are excited that all 2013 events will once again include our signature lap around Lambeau Field,” said Sean Ryan, race director for the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon. “With the return of this notable feature, we think registration to go very well and, as always, advise those interested in participating to register early to avoid missing out.”
From now until January 9, registration for the marathon is $75, half marathon is $60, and the marathon relay is $225 per team. Adult 5K registration is $20 and youth registration is $15. WPS Kids’ Power Run registration is $5.
Elite marathon registration and registration for the Love to Run program will open at a later date.
The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon has selected Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeastern Wisconsin as its new charity partner for 2013-15. Big Brothers Big Sisters will join Junior Achievement and Unity as the recipient of funds raised by the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon, which will take place May 17-19, 2013.
The charities operate on three-year terms, with one new charity added each year and one exiting charity each year. Charity organizations become a strong member of the operational team, comprised primarily of volunteers, to put on this event. Big Brothers Big Sisters was selected from a group of 16 applicants.
“Through this partnership, we hope to raise awareness of our one-to-one mentoring services along with raising additional funds to serve more youth. We currently have nearly 100 youth on our Ready-to-be-Matched waiting list that will benefit from this additional funding,” said Todd McPeek, executive director of Big Brother Big Sisters of Northeastern Wisconsin.
The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon aims to support a community need when selecting a charity partner and chooses a charity partner that would be able to effectively utilize the marathon’s platform.
“Big Brothers Big Sisters is committed to youth and breaking generational cycles of children facing adversity,” said Brighid Riordan, president of the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon board of directors. “With so many kids waiting for the support of Big Brothers Big Sisters, it was great timing to partner with them.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters has a proven positive impact. Compared to their peers, youth who have a mentor matched via the organization are 52 percent more likely to remain in school, 75 percent more likely to earn a four-year degree, 48% more likely to volunteer and 81 percent more likely to hold a leadership role.
“Partnering with the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon also gives our Big Brothers Big Sisters staff and volunteers the opportunity to collaborate with other agencies and participate in service with other caring individuals,” McPeek said.
In 2012, the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon donated $135,000 to the three charity partners. That amount has steadily increased over the 13-year history of the marathon.
Registration for the 2012 Cellcom Green Bay Marathon will open on November 5 at 10 a.m. Runners can register for the full marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 5K or WPS Kids’ Power Run. Elite marathon registration and Love to Run program registration will open at a later date.
