Runners with smartphones will be able to instantly get their results at the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon by simply scanning a quick-response (QR) code printed on their bib. A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode that can be scanned using an app on a smartphone. The code will then direct the user to the encoded information, which can be text, a phone number, a coupon, or in the marathon’s case a URL.
Runners will be directed to their personal results page when they scan the QR code on their bib. Runners with smartphones have the advantage of not having to wait in line to get their final time and mile splits.Android, BlackBerry and iPhone devices require a QR code reader application to scan QR codes, and all have several QR code applications available for free in their application market.
The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is one of the first races in the country to implement this technology. it’s nice to be at the leading edge in the racing community.”
Be sure to download an app on your phone before race weekend. Click these links for apps on Android, BlackBerry, iPhone devices. If you need more information on how to download a QR code application visit the Cellcom booth at the Prevea Health & Fitness Expo. Runners without smartphones can still get their final time and splits at the results tent in the finish area.
Registration is now open for runner text message tracking for the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon. Runners, spectators, family and friends can sign up for live email and text messages alerts for the full marathon, half marathon and marathon relay.
Provided by Cellcom and Nsight Telservices, these alerts will keep everyone up to speed on their runner’s pace, progress and expected arrival time at the finish line. For the half marathon, alerts are sent at mile 5, mile 10, mile 12.1 and the finish. Alerts will be sent at mile 5, mile 10, mile 13.1 (half-way), mile 15, mile 20, mile 25.1 and the finish for the full marathon.
Cellcom’s proprietary software calculates each participant’s pace and provides an estimate of when the person will arrive at the various mile markers. By integrating the timing mats and Cellcom’s cellular network, instant results are available to anyone who has signed up for the service regardless of what cellular provider the person uses.
To sign-up CLICK HERE and enter the bib number of the runner you would like to track, along with a cell phone number or email address to send the alerts to. Bib numbers can be looked up HERE. Each phone number and email address can track up to five bibs.
“As a technology company, we continually look for ways to integrate our expertise into the community,” said Dan Fabry, COO of Mobile Services at Cellcom. “The tracking service allows us to connect our runners and spectators, whether they’re watching along the course or across the country.”
