Well, sorta. Here’s the catch- You have to enroll in our charity fundraising program and raise $300 for our charity partners. Ask friends, family and co-workers to donate money (via your personal fundraising page) towards your efforts and ALL of the funds raised go directly to our three charity partners.
The first 200 people to sign up and raise $300 or more get a FREE ENTRY to any Cellcom Green Bay Marathon event (other than the Relay).
There are new rules this year so if you are interested in participating in the program please click HERE to learn more and/or to register.
The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon has selected Junior Achievement (JA) of Wisconsin, Brown County District as its new charity partner for 2011. Junior Achievement will join Cerebral Palsy, Inc. and Family Services as the recipients of funds raised by the 2011 Cellcom Green Bay Marathon, which will take place May 13-15, 2011.
The charities operate on three-year terms, with one new charity added each year and one exiting charity each year. Charity organizations become a strong member of the operational team made up of mostly volunteers to put on this event. Junior Achievement was selected from a group of 19 applicants.
“This is very exciting news for Junior Achievement. JA is in such high demand in the Greater Green Bay area that we currently have a waiting list of 52 classrooms,” said Laura Bilotti, Director of Junior Achievement of Wisconsin, Inc., Brown County District. “The partnership with the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon will allow JA to provide funding to these classrooms. We are very grateful for being selected and looking forwarding to our partnership.”
The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon aims to give back to the community while presenting a world-class event for people of all abilities and bring visitors to our communities. In selecting a charity, the idea is to support a community need and a charity partner that would be able to effectively utilize the marathon’s platform.
“Junior Achievement balances the mission of the marathon and presented a new way to give back to the children of the community,” said Brighid Riordan, president of the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon board of directors. “With so many budget cuts in the classroom, it’s great timing to partner with JA to provide additional funding for their many educational programs.”
Junior Achievement’s impact in Brown County is ever increasing. It has delivered age-appropriate programs to nearly 11,000 K-12 grade students in over 500 Brown County classrooms in 2009-2010.
“As the future becomes increasingly competitive for young students, so does the demand for Junior Achievement,” Bilotti said.
In 2010, the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon donated over $90,000 to the three charity partners. That amount has steadily increased over the 10-year history of the marathon.
This year’s Cellcom Green Bay Marathon generated at total of $90,067 in proceeds for its three charities – $30,067.49 of that coming from direct fundraising through the Run for a Reason program, $22,488.83 in general fundraising (amounts raised for all three charities) and $37,511.17 in operating proceeds from the event. This brings the total donated by the event to local charity partners to more than $410,000 over the past 11 years.
Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin, the Boy & Girls Club of Green Bay and Cerebral Palsy, Inc. each received $20,000 today at the Boys & Girls Club of Green Bay, a combination of the remaining Run for a Reason money and the contribution from the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon Charities Foundation. The charities had already received $30,067 in direct contributions from marathon fundraisers.

CHARITY PARTNER POSITION OPEN FOR 2011-2013 SEASONS
The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon partners with three local charities each year to assist in staffing this event. The charities serve on staggered three year terms. This allows for one new charity to be added each year as other charities’ terms expire. Applications for a 2011-2013 charity partner position is open now. Applications will be accepted through September 30, 2010. Cellcom and the marathon will announce which charity has been selected in early November.

The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon office closed registration for the 26.2-mile marathon at 1 pm on April 22nd, three weeks prior to the event. This officially closes open registration for all 2010 Cellcom Green Bay Marathon distance races. Participants may still register for the marathon or half marathon through the event’s charity fundraising program, Run for a Reason. This program enables fundraisers to create a web page that they may send to family, friends and co-workers soliciting donations for the marathon’s charity partners. These include the Boys & Girls Club, the CP Center and Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin. Upon raising $250 or more, fundraisers receive a free entry to any Cellcom Green Bay Marathon event. According to race director Sean Ryan, “the sell out of this year’s events is attributable to positive word-of-mouth about the event within the running community combined with growing participation in distance running in general.” Registration remains open for the Saturday, May 15th Cellcom Green Bay Mini-Marathon (2.62-miles) and the Wisconsin Public Service Kids’ Power Run (for children ages 10 & under). Both of these events pass through Lambeau Field and cross the marathon finish line.
The 2010 Cellcom Green Bay Half Marathon reached full capacity on Saturday, April 10th, just over six months from when registration opened. Marathon organizers can no longer accept registrations for this event. This event is closed. Organizers have reserved a block of half entry slots for fundraisers that participate in the Run For A Reason program, which raises money for the marathon’s three charity partners. Upon raising $250 or more, fundraisers in this program are awarded a free entry to any Cellcom Green Bay Marathon event, including the half marathon. The full marathon registration percentages will continue to be posted on the front page of this website.
